Dreamweaver 19.2 Impossibly Slow
I'm on Windows 10 and just updated to Dreamweaver 19.2. I have only one file open and it is mostly frozen. I have cleared my DW cache and reset all my preferences and I cannot navigate within the code. I'm in Code View with the Developer workspace. It is unusable in this state. Help!
same issue for me. since last update dreamweaver is slow - impossible to use
) What type of file are you opening in DW? is the file on the disk or on network drive? -> local drive
2) Can you please check if you are seeing the same issue with a new blank html document? yes, same problem
3) Can you please check the DW CPU usage while you are seeing this issue? 2 %
Same problem here. Using Windows 10 2004 on a 4-core machine with 16 GB. Only one file open (450 lines pure HTML). Moving the cursor up one line may take up to 3 seconds! Switching to code-only view does not help...
I have the same problem. I'm on Windows 10 and have a relatively fast computer computer with 32 GB of RAM. After updating to Dreamweaver 20.2 something as simple as typing a word takes at least 5 seconds for the characters typed to appear. I've had to force close Dreamweaver several times because it stops responding. Why does Adobe ignore this problem??? We have several Adobe Cloud subscriptions. We are starting to question the amount we are paying per month for software we can barely use.

I have the same problem. Im not a fast typer, but DW must think I am, because it takes too long for it to show the characters Im typing. I'm paying a fortune to use the Creative Suite and I'm starting to wonder if it isnt time to go somewhere else for development. I've tried all the things recommended here (claering cache, turning off features, etc) and it still acts like its tracking each key that I enter. Ok, maybe that's what is happening here. Is DW keylogging me?
This thread on a common issue has been ignored for months!
This just started for me after the latest update to Dreamweaver (20.2) in June. Typing in developer mode is way too slow, like dial-up BBS speeds. I've tried all the suggestions I found online, like clearing the cache, profiles, turning off code hinting, etc. My projects are small; less than a 1000 lines each.
I guess it's back to notepad++
Same problem as everyone else. Win 10, DW 20.1. Very slow to respond - intermittently.
-- click and wait for cursor to move
-- highlight doesn't work
-- pages open slowly
It seems to happen everytime (a) I save (b) go way and come back to the page I'm working on (c) put to my server.
So I see a lot of people with this same problem - sharing their problem, but I'm not seeing any solutions.
Anyone come up with anything? What is Adobe doing about this? I'm probably going back to Visual Studio until it gets resolved.

I'm on Windows 10 and just updated to DW 20.1. Was very slow; re-creating the cache resolved the issue for about two hours. Now it's slow again. Shall we just add cache-refreshing into our workflow, or can it be more permanently resolved? HOPE for the latter.
I'm on Windows 10 and just updated to Dreamweaver CC 2020.
it is mostly frozen.... on everything, every kind of files.
- open file
- freeze if I simply moved my cursor
CPU go crazy and DW freeze then comes back 20/30s after .... for 5 or 10 minutes... then again....
Win10-x64, 16GB - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3,40GHz
The software is simply unusable. It's really practical professionally!!!
This may help someone. The source of my extreme slowness is DW's handing of my css files.I work with large html and css files and DW would lock up for 90 to 120 secs when I first opened an html page to work on. It also would freeze if I simply moved my cursor to a different area of the page. So it seems they need to work on their css handling in future updates. I found that if you disable style rendering in design view, I gained some sanity back.
• Click View
• Mouse over Design View Options
• Mouse over Style Rendering
• Uncheck Display Styles.
Same issue as most. Win10-x64, 8GB, DW using 25% Cpu, Xeon E5-2683. Using Design/Code split view.
To even move my cursor to a different part of the page, it takes 30-45 seconds. Took over 45 minutes to insert a new row into an existing table and add content. Renaming the Dreamweaver CC 2019 folder and letting Adobe recreate it did nothing for me, except delete all of my customizations. Either way, still no solution. I have reverted to writing my HTML in Notepad++. DW 2019 is trash.
I'm opening html files. My files are local but do update to a network share. The issue is a little better on a blank html page but I'm assuming that's related to the size of the page. Some of my pages are nearly 1mb. CPU runs at 26% when simply opening the page for editing.
Michael Gilbert's solution works like a charm, but I find myself redoing this every couple of days. To salvage your keyboard shortcuts, after you've let Dreamweaver rebuild the directory, move this file from the _old to the new. C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CC 2019_old\en_US\Configuration\Menus\Custom Sets\[name of your custom shortcuts].xml Adobe really needs a better solution for this.
I have Dreamweaver 19.2.1. Running Windows 10. I'm opening a .html file on my local computer. My Copy and Paste options were greyed out until I added "_old" to the Adobe CC 2019 folder as another user suggested.
I have these types of issues with Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign all the time. This "hosted" software is too glitchy and too slow. I want my installed software back!
UPDATE: constantly changing the user interface in these applications completely screws up my workflow. Stop changing my software!!! I don't have time to take another "TOUR" to find the things you hid.
same issues with dream cc 2019
windows 10 8Go RAM CPU usage 23%. File -> New file (html) about 30-45s for view the code. File only on local disk.
abobe update ok, windows update ok
Change workspace do not change anything
Delete cache do not change anything
No other app launch.

Okay, so I contacted Support, and a very helpful bod called Anushri sorted it in seconds by renaming AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CC 2019 to AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CC 2019_old and letting Dreamweaver recreate it.
Problem gone away.

I've got this too. A perfectly simple HTML file, in Code View, and I can't expand a <div> tag. THis is a local file (see screengrab). CPU and RAM usage is minimal.
This on a 64-bit Windows 10 PC, running version 1903, with a Core i5-4670 processor, 16GB RAM & a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card.
Creating a new document: takes a perceptible amount of time.- white screen for ~16 seconds before the basic code appears. Trying to type into the page in Code View: nothing happens for ~20 seconds, and that just putting in a carriage return.
That is appalling.
i'm having same issue, the program is useless like this
Having the same issues with Dreamweaver 19.2 my files are connected to a network drive. Windows 10 with 16 gigs of RAM. It is also in the code window with any file php, html, js, css etc.
